Exciting news! Gore Verbinski is returning to horror with a new feature, and has cast two of his leads.
According to THR, Dane DeHaan and Mia Goth will star in the supernatural story A CURE FOR WELLNESS. Written by Justin Haythe (REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, THE LONE RANGER), the film will follow a man (DeHaan) who travels to Europe to retrieve his boss from a "wellness spa," but soon finds himself trapped in the facility and under the control of its ruthless director. Goth will play a longtime patient at the spa, seeminly unaware of the danger of her surroundings
Verbinski terrified us with 2002's THE RING, and then turned his attention outside the horror genre. He concentrated on more family-friendly adventure stories, to varying degrees of success, including three PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films and THE LONE RANGER.
And though he is certainly skilled at the Disney stuff, it's exciting to see him taking on something a bit darker and more suspenseful again, particularly with such strong casting. DeHaan turned in great performances in CHRONICLE and KILL YOUR DARLINGS. Goth had a role in Lars von Trier's NYMPHOMANIAC VOL 2, and will be featured in the upcoming EVEREST, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robin Wright.
