Producers said its still-untitled new superhero team-up pilot would feature Firestorm, The Atom, Captain Cold, possibly Black Canary and three major DC Comics characters who have never before been portrayed on TV.
Time traveler Rip Hunter, who was seen in a 2008 episode of “Batman: The Brave and The Bold,” is apparently one of these three. So I guess producers aren’t counting cartoon appearances.
Arthur Darvill, who played time traveler Rory Williams on 27 episodes of “Doctor Who,” will play Hunter, a character first introduced in 1959’s Showcase #20.
Like The Doctor, Hunter likes to visit various points in history, but he used a “time sphere” instead of a Tardis. And he called himself a Time Master rather than a Time Lord.
Also recently cast in the team-up pilot is Ciara Renee, who will play Kendra “Hawkgirl” Saunders. Saunders is not among the three promised DC virgins, as she was portrayed by Sahar Biniaz in a season-nine episode of “Smallville.”
The spinoff comes from longtime “Dawson’s Creek” showrunner Greg Berlanti, who scripted the “Green Lantern” movie before he created the CW’s “Arrow” and “The Flash” and CBS’ upcoming “Supergirl.”
