Ansel Elgort Is Edgar Wright's BABY DRIVER!

Ansel Elgort

Jeremy here...

Back in January, rumors started circulating that several actors were up for the lead in Edgar Wright's forthcoming BABY DRIVER. Logan Lerman and John Boyega were allegedly being considered, but the frontrunner was believed to be Ansel Elgort (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS and DIVERGENT). Today, according to Variety, he went from frontrunner to done deal: Ansel Elgort will officially star in Edgar Wright's BABY DRIVER.

Little is known about the plot of Wright's follow-up to THE WORLD'S END, but Variety seems to have teased out a little more information in today's item. Here's their blurb:

Plot follows a talented, young getaway driver who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Like any other true cinephile, Wright loves a great, well-choreographed-and-executed car chase, so it'll be fun to see him play in that sandbox (as well as, I'm assuming, heist film conventions). Wright is one of our most talented working filmmakers, so each new project should be greeted with an abundance of hope and excitement. I'd love to see a hyper-stylish blend of Hal Needham, Philip D'Antoni and Jackie Chan.
