UPDATE: Comedy Central confirmed Monday that Noah Trevor will indeed succeed Jon Stewart as host of "The Daily Show.
South African comic Trevor Noah, star of stand-up special “Trevor Noah: African-American,” is the frontrunner to replace Jon Stewart at “The Daily Show,” according to a Deadline source.
31-year-old Noah, the son of white man from Switzerland and a black South African woman, first appeared on “The Daily Show” in December as a correspondent and has made two appearances on the show since.
He’s much more famous in South Africa, where as a teen he had a major role in the soap opera “Isidingo.” He’s since hosted a reality show, awards shows, a radio show, a gossip show, a sports show, an educational show, and “Tonight With Trevor Noah.” He’s also pitchman for a major South African cellular provider.
He first appeared on "The Tonight Show" in 2012 and on "The Late Show" in 2013.
Noah must be pretty fucking funny to have vaulted over the fabulous Jessica Williams, who may now be rethinking her comments that she’s “underqualified” for the job. Williams has appeared on 100 episodes of “The Daily Show” since 2012.
Despite Noah's frontrunner status, Deadline's source says Comedy Central is still considering others for Stewart's chair.
