When word broke last month that Paul Reubens was going to step into the suit and bow-tie of his beloved Pee-wee Herman character once again for a brand-new film, I couldn't have been more psyched. Pee-Wee played a HUGE role in my childhoood in many forms - through the Pee-Wee's Playhouse series, Tim Burton's incredible PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, the obnoxious Pee-wee doll that tormented my parents until its voicebox finally gave out - he's an iconic character that makes me smile to this day.
Production began yesterday on PEE-WEE's BIG HOLIDAY, which unites Reubens with producer Judd Apatow. John Lee (INSIDE AMY SCHUMER) is making his feature debut. The first image has been released, via Reubens' official website.
And if anyone was ever questioning whether or not Reubens could take on the role again after 30 or so years, the answer is a resounding yes - the man doesn't seem to have aged a bit, and looks quite comfortable.
PEE-WEE'S BIG HOLIDAY will air on Netflix, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
