New Casting Info on THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Prequel, LEATHERFACE!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

TONS of news has come out this week regarding the upcoming LEATHERFACE, the new film in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre mythology, which will tell the story of a teenage Leatherface, before the events of 1974's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.

I scoffed when I initially read the that info too, but stay with me - it's definitely getting interesting. In addition to the previously-announced directing team of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (INSIDE), some casting news has dropped as well.

The most exciting bit comes courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, who revealed that the great Angela Bettis is in talks for a role in the film. Bettis has been a favorite of the horror community for years, having starred in Lucky McKee's MAY and THE WOMAN, the 2002 CARRIE adaptation, and THE TOOLBOX MURDERS remake. She will be playing a character named Verna, said to be the matriarch of the Sawyer family.

Very exciting to see her boarding this project. Between this and the INSIDE guys behind the wheel, this flick officially has my full attention.

The next bit of casting concerns Leatherface himself. Earlier this week, it was reported that EAST ENDERS star Sam Strike has been cast as Jackson, who could one day grow up to become the infamous chainsaw-weirlding killer. Today, The Wrap reported that James Bloor is nearing a deal to costar as well. The rumor currently circulating is that there will be several psychotic teenage killers, one of which will emerge as Leatherface.

So while the idea of watching one of cinema's most notoriously violent characters take on the challenges that come with puberty initially gave us pause, the film is putting together an interesting and talented team. Definitley something to keep an eye on. What do you guys think?
