Dark Passage Bogart Bacall

Jeremy here...

We're coming up on spring in Los Angeles, which means it's time for the Noir City: Hollywood festival (April 3rd - 19th), co-sponsored by the Film Noir Foundation! Feel like hunkering down in the American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theatre and soaking in some rare 35mm prints of hard-boiled crime flicks featuring folks like Humphrey Bogart, Barbara Stanwyck, Ann Sheridan, Robert Ryan, Merle Oberon, John Garfield, Ralph Meeker and more? Well, hit up the American Cinematheque's official site, and get yourself some tickets!

The highlights this year include new 35mm restorations of Norman Foster's little-seen classic WOMAN ON THE RUN and John Reinhardt's THE GUILTY (currently unavailable on DVD). There are three Jacques Tourneur films on the schedule (THE LEOPARD MAN, CIRCLE OF DANGER and BERLIN EXPRESS), a Stanwyck double feature (WITNESS TO MURDER and JEOPARDY), and a screening of DARK PASSAGE featuring an interview w/ Bogie & Bacall's son, Stephen Bogart.

And it's all made possible by the efforts of the Film Noir Foundation, which is committed to the restoration and preservation of noir pictures. There are many lesser-known films that are in danger of being lost forever due to a lack of resources, and the foundation is doing all it can to rescue these movies - and they need your help! So head on over to the foundation's website, and, if you can, kick them some coin. There are all kinds of perks depending on how friendly you're feeling with your wallet.

Hope to see you at the Egyptian for the festival!
