Check Out the First Still from the MARTYRS Remake!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

We recently learned that the MARTYRS remake, long since presumed dead, is actually alive again and kicking. Bloody Disgusting broke the news that, not only is the remake of one of the most shocking French horror films to date still in the works, it is actually already in the can. Cast members include Bailey Noble (TRUE BLOOD), Troian Bellasario (PRETTY LITTLE LIARS), Kate Burton (BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA) and Blake Robbins (RUBBER).

The first still from the movie has been released, and though it doesn't reveal anything too horrific (yet), if you've seen the original, well, you can only imagine what might be coming our way.

If you're not familiar with MARTYRS, I suggest you check it out as soon as possible, and then quickly secure a therapist. Pascal Laugier's film is a fascinating tale that pulls no punches and is something of an endurance trial for even the most seasoned horror fans.

Here is the synopsis for the new film:

Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…

The remake is being directed by the Goetz Brothers (SCENIC ROUTE), from a script by Mark L. Smith (VACANCY, THE REVENANT). Though the poster out of Berlin promises "The Ultimate Horror Movie," I remain a tad skeptical. Laugier's film was about 50 different kinds of fucked up, and in ways that make it difficult to bring to an American audience. I can already see the MPAA, every church group and about 10,000 moms readying their torches and pitchforks. Which is not to say I don't believe this team can make a good horror film - I hope they can. I just have reservations about bringing the essance of the flat-out bug-fuck-nuts pile of crazy that is MARTYRS to American audiences. I don't know that we can handle it.

Time will tell though. No release date has been set as of yet, so we'll keep an eye on it, and hopefully will have more info soon.
