Live in Chicago? Capone has seats for an early screening of THE GUNMAN, with director Pierre Morel and lead actress Jasmine Trinca Q&A!!!

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

One might consider THE GUNMAN as the flip side to AMERICAN SNIPER. THE GUNMAN also focuses on a man—a former Special Forces soldier, played by Sean Penn—who has grown weary of his work as a military contractor (very often called upon to carry out political assassinations) that he vanishes for a couple of years before re-emerging to try and do some good in the land where he once caused havoc. Naturally, when he pops up again, all manner of people want him dead for what he knows and has documented, and he must struggle to survive and keep the only woman he truly loves safe as well. It’s actually remarkable watching Penn maneuver through this landscape—part action, part political commentary, but completely focused and compelling. The film is directed by the gifted French action filmmaker Pierre Morel, who has rattled us with films like DISTRICT B13, TAKEN, and FROM PARIS WITH LOVE.

Penn’s co-star in the film is Jasmine Trinca, an Italian actress whose memorable first screen appearance was in director Nanni Moretti’s THE SON’S ROOM in 2001. And it just so happens that for Ain’t It Cool News readers in the Chicagoland area, I have some good news about this raucous little film. I have a great many seats for an early screening of THE GUNMAN (which opens on March 20) on Sunday, March 8 at 7:00pm, at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to the winners). As an added treat, director Pierre Morel and lead actress Jasmine Trinca will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A. Here's how to win seats…

To win, send me an email at GunmanChicago@aintitcoolmail.com (please note the new email address) with the subject line “Armed with the Truth" (exactly like that). In the body of the email, I need your full Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (each winner may bring ONE confirmed guest--if I think you gave your +1 to someone trolling for free tickets at the theater, you won't get in), and the answer to the following question: "What is your favorite film about shady doings in the military, and why?" So what I need is the name of the movie and an explanation for your answer. Keep your responses BRIEF--no more than 100 words (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit). Best answers (as judged by me) win, and you'll hear from me very soon if you won, so keep checking your email over the next couple of days. Continue reading before you enter…

Although this is not an exclusive Ain't It Cool News event, winners' seats will be reserved until 30 minutes before showtime (meaning 6:30 pm). The venue is deliberately overbooked to guarantee a full house for our guests. If you can't arrive by 6:30 pm, don't enter this contest. If there's even the slightest chance you or your guest will have to back out of attending or arrive late if you do win, don't enter. If you have a job that might make you late or unable to attend, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, or a scratchy throat, do not enter. And the 24-hour-notice-to-cancel rule is done. If you win and don't show up, the Black List will be your new best friend.

Good luck, everyone! And thanks to Open Road Films for bringing this screening and very cool guests to Chicago.
