New Trailer for Abel Ferrara's WELCOME TO NEW YORK!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

IFC has released a trailer for Abel Ferrara's (MS. 45) newest film, WELCOME TO NEW YORK. The film is a fictionalized account of the scandal surrounding Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the French economist and politician who was accused of sexually assaulting a hotel worker in 2011.

BASED ON TRUE EVENTS: A sex-addicted French financier, a fateful hotel room encounter, and a scandal that would rock the world: the mighty Gérard Depardieu gives a fearless performance in this ripped-from-the-headlines saga of sin and sleaze from boundary-pushing director Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, Ms. 45). Inspired by one of the most high-profile public implosions in recent memory, Welcome to New York follows a prominent international banker (Depardieu) as he spirals out of control during a drug and sex-fueled trip to America—culminating in a shocking incident involving a hotel maid and his subsequent arrest. Jacqueline Bisset co-stars in this provocative portrait of a man whose fall from grace sent shockwaves throughout the world.

WELCOME TO NEW YORK has undergone some cuts at the request of IFC, in order to secure an "R' rating. Ferrara was understandably kind of pissed, as he had been under the impression that he had delivered the final version; but if the final cut is anything like this trailer, it still looks to be an engaging and thought-provoking take on excess, and the lengths that people will go to when they presume themselves to be untouchable. As much as I would have loved to have seen Ferrara's intended vision released, I still find myself looking forward to the film.

The film is set to hit theaters and VOD on March 27th. What do you guys think?
