Hey guys! Horrorella here...
We haven't heard much about the live-action JEM reboot since it was announced last year, aside from a teaser poster confirming, yes, Jem, Kimber, Aja and Shana would all be represented onscreen.
Now, it seems a still has been released. io9 (via Collider) noticed a small image in the upcoming March issue of Elle Magazine and blew it up, to give fans a better idea of what is in store when the flick hits theaters this fall.
The synopsis deviates from the plot of the animated series by featuring Jem as a performer who becomes an internet sensation and goes on a music-driven scavenger hunt to unlock a final, mysterious message from her father. I figured the entire property would be updated and all of its cheesy 80's wonderfulness would be left behind in favor of a slick, modern, Youtube approach.
Turns out, that doesn't seem to be the case. Check out the photo:

As enthusiastic as I am about the little things, I'm still really curious to see how this one develops as we get closer to release date - particularly once we start seeing some footage. As a huge fan of the series growing up (one of the very best 80s television had to offer), I'm a little reluctant to think that they will be able to keep the tone in tact while also offering it up to an entirely new audience.
And while the instruments and the makeup we see here is pretty wicked, the hair might need to be a tad bigger.
