Well, we know who WON'T be playing Colossus in DEADPOOL!

When we’d heard that X-Man Colossus would be appearing in DEADPOOL, the question was whether the filmmakers would maintain franchise continuity by getting Daniel Cudmore to reprise the role he originated in X2 12 years ago. After all, they were retconning Deadpool’s origin story from X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, so just how slavish were they going to be to the other elements of Bryan Singer’s franchise?

Now we have our answer.

There you have it. Mr. Cudmore portrayed Colossus a.k.a. Piotr Rasputin in X2, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, and DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but next time we see the character, it will be another actor underneath all the metal. He’s the only X-person we’ve heard about making an appearance in this pseudo-spinoff, but I’d imagine that any other character from the previous 7 films (as well as APOCALYPSE) will also be played by new actors (save for maybe the big dogs of the core cast like Jackman's Wolverine).

Just as well. They’re going to have to distinguish this DEADPOOL, in both tone and story, from the Weapon XI version in ORIGINS, especially considering Ryan Reynolds is reprising the role. Significantly overlapping this new flick with the PG-13 X-MEN franchise could be a little confusing for people, as well as detracting from the more anarchic, R-rated vibe they seem to be going for. Just seeing Colossus in the flick could be enough to throw some folks off, but with a new actor in the role, it’ll be easier to accept that this is alternate universe Colossus and not the same guy we saw teaching kids at the School for Gifted Children.

This cast is coming together quickly, so expect to hear a few more names (including who will actually play Mr. Rasputin) over the next month or two.

Who would you want to see pound in mutant heads as Colossus?

DEADPOOL may cut your head off or make fun of you or both on February 12th, 2016.
