AMC’s “Walking Dead,” based on a comic book series co-created by Robert Kirkman, is the most popular scripted series on television. Now Cinemax has ordered 10 episodes of “Outcast,” based on a comic Kirkman co-created last year.
Could “Outcast” prove even more popular than “The Walking Dead”?
Kirkman scripted the pilot for the TV version of “Outcast,” which stars Patrick Fugit (“Almost Famous”) as a fellow who has been “plagued by possession his entire life” and could end all life on Earth as he undertakes a spiritual journey.
Of course, unlike the TV version of “The Walking Dead,” the TV version of “Outcast” will not benefit from the talents of writer-director Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption,” “The Green Mile,” “The Mist”) or current “Walking Dead” showrunner Scott Gimple.
The “Outcast” pilot was directed by Adam Wingard (“The Guest”).
“Outcast” is also not to be confused with “Thief of Thieves,” another project based on a Kirkman comic that’s been in development at AMC since early 2012.
