You can breathe a little easier now: the fourth ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS movie appears to be coming together. It’s called ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE ROAD CHIP.
Variety says VEEP’s Tony Hale will appear as the picture’s ‘villain,’ joining the returning Jason Lee and Justin Long.
Walt Becker (WILD HOGS) will helm from a script by Randi Mayem Singer (writer of MRS. DOUBTFIRE and Dwayne Johnson’s TOOTH FAIRY movie).
To be completely fair, despite my obnoxious Nerd Snark above, these movies have bagged a tremendous amount of money for The Powers That Be. The first picture pulled down around $361 million off of a $60 million budget, the second (THE SQUEAKQUEL) grossed around $443 million off of a $75 million budget, and the third (CHIPWRECKED) brought in over $342 million off of a $75 million budget - and that’s through box office alone. So, more power to ‘em, and when looking at numbers like these, another escapade seems not only logical, but expected.
The fourth film looks to be in theaters ‘round Christmas time.
