Hey folks, Harry here... I'm not sure if you're madly in love with Rinko Kikuchi... but ever since Quint came back from the set of THE BROTHERS BLOOM, she's been on my radar. The first image I saw of THE BROTHERS BLOOM was Rinko Kikuchi's Bang Bang, and I was smitten. Watching her in BROTHERS BLOOM was amazing because as much as I loved Boom Boom, Yoko friggin flipped for her. She adored Rinko Kikuchi in that and PACIFIC RIM. Meanwhile, I just discovered her in Mamoru Oshii's ASSAULT GIRLS, which I picked up on sale at FRY'S on Blu for $2.99 - and yeah, she's great in that too. Hell, 47 RONIN was a bizarre film, but again, I love Rinko. She's just wonderful on screen, her eyes are so expressive and easy to empathize with.
Well, she stars as the titular character in KUMIKO: THE TREASURE HUNTER which is coming to SXSW and premiered at SUNDANCE - and well, with Alexander Payne producing, which isn't all that surprising since she was in his SIDEWAYS... this just means we're going to get a very different type of film with Rinko and that is exciting as hell. The word of mouth on this is stellar - and now... here ya go, check out this trailer...
