Check Out this New Image from Stephen King's CELL!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

The loooooooooong gestating theatrical adaptation of Stephen King's novel CELL is getting closer and closer to theaters. Today, Clarius Entertainment announced that they will be handling U.S. distribution for the film, and will be releasing it later this year.

When a powerful signal is broadcast across mobile networks worldwide, cell phone users’ minds are instantly and dangerously re-programmed. Heading north through New England in search of his wife and son, Clay Riddell (Cusack) is joined by a group of survivors hoping to fend off the bloodthirsty and hyper-connected “phoners.”

The film adaptation has been in the works for years. At one point, Eli Roth was going to direct. At another point, they were talking about making it a tv series. The version that finally made it to production sees PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 director Tod "Kip" Williams behind the camera. Stephen King wrote the script, with some additions from Adam Alleca (LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake).

A new image has been released as well, and though it doesn't give away too many details, it does give you a good idea of the chaos surrounding our band of heroes as they try to make their way to safety. The film co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Stacy Keach, and ORPHAN's Isabel Fuhrman

I enjoyed the book, despite the rather shaky ending. I'll be interested to see how the story translates to the screen when it opens later this year. There were a few moments in the book that felt like they had the makings of bloody horror movie gold when I first read them, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they work in the film.
