Genre King Karl Urban (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, DREDD, STAR TREK, RIDDICK) has joined the cast of the forthcoming live-action/CGI reimagining of PETE’S DRAGON.
Urban is evidently assuming a role being vacated by DEXTER’s Michael C. Hall, whose participation in the project is being impacted by scheduling issues.
The remake aims to reinvent the core of the original family film, which is not expected to be a musical this time around. The story follows a young boy (Fegley), whose parents are dead. He’s subsequently raised in a forest by a dragon.

The PETE’S DRAGON retelling is due in theaters August 2016. A few days back, Urban was also rumored as a potential villain in the AQUAMAN standalone movie. I don’t believe there’s been official conformation of that, yet, but stay tuned…
