THR has debuted the first trailer for Mitchell Lichtenstein's (TEETH) new film, ANGELICA. If you’ve been feeling a void in the Victorian-era gothic horror department, this could be your cure.
Based on the book by Arthur Phillips, ANGELICA stars Jena Malone stars as a young woman named Constance. Following the birth of her daughter, Constance begins to notice strange and ghostly disturbances around the house, and begins to suspect that the residence might be haunted by a spirit.
Dark halls, shadowy rooms, creeky doors and frustrated, sexual repression – hells yeah!
In TEETH, Lichtenstein provided a refreshing take on embracing female sexuality in a male-dominated, sex-driven world, and I’m hoping for a similar take in this new film, as he takes on the sexually restrained values of the 19th century.
ANGELICA will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival next month. Between this and Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming CRIMSON PEAK, I think we’re in for a renaissance of shadowy, tight-laced horror in 2015. Count me in!
