DC’s big-screen universe may be making do without a Jimmy Olsen (in “Man of Steel” and “Batman V Superman” actress Rebecca Buller plays a Daily Planet employee who may or may not be named Jenny Olsen), but the small-screen DC universe is getting James Olsen.
In CBS’ fast-approaching “Supergirl” series Mehcad Brooks (best known to “True Blood” fans as Tara’s boyfriend “Egggggggggs!!”) will play Olsen, but Brooks’ Olson will not work for the Planet. The “Supergirl” Olsen will serve as photographer for CatCo, a media giant that also employs Supergirl’s alter ego.
(The smart money says CatCo is overseen by Catherine Jane Grant, who in the funnybooks serves as the Daily Planet’s gossip columnist.)
I don’t recall Olsen and Superman’s hot female cousin hanging out together much in the comics, but in 1984’s “Supergirl” Jimmy Olsen was played by Marc McClure, who also played Olsen in all four Christopher Reeve Superman movies.
CBS's "Supergirl" comes to us from Greg Berlanti, the longtime "Dawson's Creek" showrunner who went on to write the "Green Lantern" movie and create the CW's versions of "Arrow" and "The Flash."
