Paramount has set new release dates for the next films in the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, FRIDAY THE 13TH, and RING franchises!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

Paramount shuffled up their horror slate today with new release dates for new installments in three of their most popular franchises.

First up is PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION, which they moved from its planned March 13th, 2015 date but will now open on the more conventional horror date of October 23rd. This isn’t surprising at all, and seems to be a sound move for a franchise that has seen a ton of success with October dates.

Next up is RINGS, which is the third RING film and will serve as a reboot for the franchise. Not a lot is known about it other than F. Javier Gutierrez is directing, and it is rumored to be a prequel. It will be released on November 13th of this year, which means filming should be starting soon (or already has), so we should know a lot more about it any day now.

Finally, Paramount’s new FRIDAY THE 13TH will move from that November 13th slot to May 13th, 2016. Everybody expected this, as the script or even direction of the new film wasn’t locked down as of a few months ago. It is a little surprising that they are dropping it right in the prime of blockbuster season, sandwiched between CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Horror films like THE PURGE series and THE STRANGERS have seen summer success though and it probably won’t take much to turn a profit with a FRIDAY THE 13th film. So this will still probably work out for Paramount. Plus, there are only so many Friday the 13th dates during a year, so it limits the possible release dates.
