Another day, another crop of SUICIDE SQUAD rumors!

It was but five days ago when it came out that Jon Bernthal and Joel Edgerton were in talks to replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jr., along with the news that Gary Sinise was onboard, most likely as General Wade Eiling. Today brings us a host of new potential cast members and characters, courtesy of JoBlo.

Karl Urban, who we learned only last week is up for the villain role in AQUAMAN, is another actor reportedly in contention to play Flag Jr., who we’ve heard will be joined by his father in the film. For Rick Flag Sr., David Ayer/WB are said to be looking at Ed Harris and Max Martini (PACIFIC RIM). So the story rumors I mentioned last week seem to be just as possible as ever.

Deathstroke allegedly IS a character in the film, and apart from the previously-mentioned Joe Manganiello (who did a great job at the GOODFELLAS live-read last week, I might add), Jason Clarke is another possibility for the assassin who goes directly against the SQUAD.

Clifford DeVoe a.k.a. The Thinker is also supposed to be part of the narrative, and Geoffrey Rush has already passed on the role. They’re currently looking for the right man for the job.

It was said that it was wrong to assume Gary Sinise was up for the role of Wade Eiling, and indeed, JoBlo alleges that he would be playing General Sam Lane, father of Lois.

Also, the idea that The Joker will be confined for much of the narrative as a “Hannibal Lecter-type” entity is supported by notions that he “is scarred all over his body because of his battles with Batman,” “plays mind games with people and twists [their] minds,” and that “everyone is afraid of him.”

All of this is terribly unofficial, and until we get word directly from Ayer or the studio, absolutely none of it is even remotely set in stone. Though the film is set to get underway fairly soon, whole characters can come and go in between now and next August. I will say that I’m liking what I’m hearing, and that all signs point to this being a much darker, dangerous adventure than the other ones we can expect from the DCCU (though possibly not by much).

Who would you want to see as The Thinker, now that Mr. Rush has said, “Nay”?

SUICIDE SQUAD acts like a bizarro JLA on August 5th, 2016.
