Syd Mead Takes Fireball Tim For A Car Ride!!

‘Visual Futurist’ Syd Mead’s influence on the Geekscape can’t be overstated.

His work on ALIENS, BLADE RUNNER, TRON, 2010, and STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE helped to shape an indelible vision and aesthetic for those films, all of which are inarguably instrumental moments in both Geek and Pop cultures.

More recently, Mead handled some design work on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III, Neill Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM, and his next big screen efforts will be on display this Summer’s TOMORROWLAND (May 22).

Beyond his entertainment work, Mead is easily one of the most meaningful and accomplished industrial designers/artists ever - certainly one of the most consequential around today.  He is highly in demand, and is something of a legend.

And with that glowing preamble out of the way,  what better way is there to celebrate one of our world’s greatest artists/designers than by watching him…

…drive a car?

Fireball Tim recently got to go on a short car ride in Mead’s '72 Chrysler Imperial, and put together this short video / cursory interview as said journey transpired.  This isn’t specifically about film or television, but it does afford some fun insight into Mead as a person, who also provides some lovely sentiment for those interested in pursuing design.  Check it out.
