Hey guys! Horrorella here...
While BIRDMAN basks in the glow of its recent Oscar nominations, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is already in production on his next feature - an adaptation of Michael Punke's novel, THE REVENANT. The story follows Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), a fur trapper who gets mauled by a grizzly bear, robbed by a gang of thieves and left for dead. He manages to trek back to civizilation and embarks on a vengence quest against the thieves who left him to die in the wilderness.
A harrowing story wouldn't be complete without a harrowing shoot, and Inarritu and cineamatographer Emmanuel Lubezki have that covered. The crew is filming in remote areas of Canada, using only natural light, and thus, can only shoot for a few hours each day.
Says Inarritu,
“It’s a very experimental thing that we’re doing here…I’m now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise. We are all into it.”
EW has debuted the first images from the film. Check them out below.
