Frank Darabont has dumped THE HUNTSMAN, but Universal has already found a replacement!!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

When Frank Darabont was announced as the director of the SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN spin-off film, THE HUNTSMAN, it actually got me (and many others) interested in a film that I never imagined I would be. Well, we can all go back to not really being interested in it, as Variety is reporting that Frank Darabont is off the project, due to the always alarming “creative differences”.

That’s not all though, as Universal has already lined up his replacement in the form of first time director, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. He was the VFX supervisor and second unit director on the first film so the hope is that this will be a quick and smooth transition, as the film is scheduled to hit theaters in just over a year. Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron will be reprising their roles from the first film and Emily Blunt is reportedly in negotiations to star alongside Theron and Hemsworth.

I can only imagine what the creative differences were that led to Darabont’s departure (my money is on that he wanted a script before they actually started shooting), but I can’t help but be a little relieved by this news. It felt like he was slumming a bit when he signed on to this, so hopefully he can use his talents on a more interesting project.
