GONE GIRL Team to Remake STRANGERS ON A TRAIN!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

After the massive success of GONE GIRL, David Fincher, Ben Affleck and writer Gillian Flynn are taking on an entirely new challenge – a remake of Hitchcock’s classic STRANGERS ON A TRAIN.

Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, the film tells the story of two men who meet on a train. Each dissatisfied with some aspect of his own life, they agree to a murder exchange - each will kill an individual in the other’s life so as to make things a bit more tolerable. The idea being, the complete lack of motive would make it impossible for the police to pin the blame on anybody during their investigation. and both men would walk away, free and a little happier.

This version will, of course, be updated, with the setting now aboard a private jet, since train travel isn't really in high demand. Ben Affleck will star, taking on the role originally portrayed by Farley Granger, but rather than a bored tennis pro, he will be a movie star in the middle of an Oscar season campaign. His private jet will break down, and he will be offered a ride by a kindly, super-wealthy stranger with his own private jet. Then, undoubtedly, plans for murder will ensue.

Affleck has a lot on his plate now, with his next directorial project, an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s Live By Night and a starring role in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE film. They are hoping to be able to shoot STRANGERS somewhere between the two.

While the idea of a Hitchcock remake seems like the most basic level of sacrilege, this certainly isn't the first time this concept has been tapped (THROW MOMMA FROM A TRAIN is a prime example). It is a fantastic story, and one that can easily translate to any time period. Plus, Fincher taking the reins on the project opens it up to all kinds of possibilities.

What do you guys think? Are you on board for a Fincher-directed STRANGERS?
