Just a heads up that, in a strangely under-publicized appearance, Billy Dee Williams will reprise his Lando Calrissian role from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI in tonight’s episode of STAR WARS REBELS.
The episode, called Idiot's Array, is now available via Disney XD’s app and will transmit later tonight on the network itself. It’s a blast. It's very funny (not altogether surprising given who scripted it), and features Lando in a significant appearance. This is not merely a cameo. He wrecks exactly the kind of havoc one would expect throughout our core heroic crew, macking on the women, irritating the men, and winning their bitchy droid in a card game - much to the chagrin of all.
It’s helmed by the great Steward Lee (who directed some of the very best CLONE WARS episodes and a number of REBELS’ first season installments), and is scripted Kevin Hopps (who used to do writing work on classic sitcoms like ONE DAY AT A TIME, GOOD TIMES, MAUD, TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT, as well as animated fare like BEN 10, SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, and YOUNG JUSTICE. He also penned two previous REBELS entries this year).
Williams recently voiced Calrissian in an entirely different animated form and undertaking, playing a bricky version of the character in 2013’s LEGO MOVIE.
