Filming has begun on Netflix’s eight-episode sequel to “Wet Hot American Summer.” David Wain and Michael Showalter, who wrote the original movie, are doing the same for the series, with Wain (“Role Models,” “Wanderlust”) reprising his role as director.
According to Deadline Hollywood, virtually the entire cast of the motion picture is back from the 14-year-old feature, including Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Janeane Garofalo, H. Jon Benjamin, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, , David Hyde Pierce, Judah Friedlander, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Nina Hellman, Marisa Ryan, Zak Orth, Kevin Sussman, and “The State” vets Showalter, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black and Joe LoTruglio.
“Wet” got positive reviews from only 23% (or 5) of the 22 “top critics” surveyed by Rotten Tomatoes, but it did get a positive review from Netflix critic James Rocchi, who gave it three out of five stars.
This "Wet" development reminds me a lot of Starz' November announcement that it is producing 10 epiosdes of "Ash Vs. Evil Dead" starring original "Evil Dead" icon Bruce Campbell.
