As X-MEN: APOCALYPSE gears up to shoot this spring, the casting process is well underway and we know they are going to need new younger version of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm. There was a shortlist of actors that came out a few months ago but Latino Review has a new report on some actors who are actually testing for the roles.
For Young Storm the first actress mentioned is Alexandra Shipp, who starred as Aaliyah in the infamous Lifetime biopic, AALIYAH: PRINCESS OF R&B. She was also in the recent DRUMLINE sequel and has a role in the upcoming N.W.A film, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON.
The other actress mentioned for Young Storm is Zendaya Coleman. She has mostly had roles on Disney Channel projects like the TV show SHAKE IT UP and the TV movie ZAPPED.
They have three actors mentioned for Young Cyclops. First up is Taron Egerton who has a role in the upcoming Matthew Vaughn comic book film, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE. I haven’t seen the film yet but people who have seem to really love his performance in it.
Jamie Blackley is the next actor mentioned and he was the male lead in the Chloe Moretz-starring, IF I STAY and also had roles in THE FIFTH ESTATE and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN a few years ago.
The final actor testing for Young Cyclops is Tye Sheridan who was incredible in one of 2013’s best films, MUD. He was also really good in David Gordon Green’s JOE. He would definitely be my choice for this role.
Finally there are two actresses mentioned for Young Jean Grey. The first one mentioned is Sophie Turner who is in GAME OF THRONES but hasn’t done much else.
Saorise Ronan is the other actress mentioned and she has had a few really great roles starting with her Oscar nominated performance in ATONEMENT right on through HANNA and THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. She is the one on this entire list that has the most experience and the least amount of risk so if she is testing for a role I would be shocked if she didn’t get it.
Expect some casting announcements soon as filming is supposed to start in April for a May 27th, 2016 release.
