HBO’s hugely popular mega-series GAME OF THRONES will be be the first television show to become IMAXified, and it’s gonna happen very soon.
An exclusive trailer for the coming season along with the final two episodes of the previous season will be shown in 150 Imax theaters across the country.
The critically acclaimed drama about rival dynasties in a medieval-like world will be the first television series ever to appear on Imax screens. Tickets for the engagement, which will run for one week from Jan. 23 to 29, will go on sale “in the coming days.”

As of this posting, there’s no sign of the event listed on IMAX’s site. But…as the article states…tickets should be rolling out in fairly short order.
Given the high production values of a number of television enterprises these days, the appearance of GAME OF THRONES on IMAX screens could signify the beginning of a hugely significant and immensely enjoyable trend. It appears IMAX is currently in discussions with other productions and outlets to host presentations via its large format - so hope shines brightly.
Regrettably, however, HERE COMES HONEY BOO BOO was recently cancelled. So, in that instance at least, we'll be left to weep for what could’ve been…
