An Update on OCEAN'S ELEVEN!!!

Published at:  Sep 19, 2000 6:35:38 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest rumors on OCEAN'S ELEVEN.... while the cast seems to be shifting about and transforming... it's looking mighty fine from here.... Seems like in the valuable pre-strike time period... Soderbergh will have a large vat of the Hollywood Talent Pool wrapped up in Vegas, living large. I've read 2 drafts of OCEAN'S ELEVEN so far, and from draft a to b... it improved quite a bit... I have faith in the Soderbergh...

Some of this info is new, while some is just info that has been confirmed by
my spy. The name of my site is the Unoffical
Ocean's Eleven page
. You can call me Massive3215.

The latest news about the script comes from a new reliable source who I will
call "Dan Bolty".

First off one of the rumors we have been hearing about Matt Damon replacing
Mark Wahlberg is indeed true. Matt Damon has officially signed on to the
film and will be taking over the role of Linus Zerga.

As confirmed by Michael Fleming at Variety a few days ago Ewan McGregor is
currently reading the script, and has been offered the role of Basher Tarr.

Ralph Fiennes has also been offered the role of Terry Benedict, which was
thought back in June to be held by Michael Douglas.

Don Cheadle who was thought to be one of the few actors who had already
signed on, is actually awaiting to see the rewrite before signing on as the
character Roscoe Means.

As reported here first, the role of Reuben Tishkoff was originally offered
to Dennis Franz. Apparently he couldn't get away from NYPD Blue long enough
to shoot the film though. Sydney Pollack has now been offered the role, and
is currently reading the script.

As far as the Malloy brothers, Frank Catton, and Yen are concerned, "Dan
Bolty" has not heard of any actors currently up for those roles.

"Dan Bolty" also said that Soderbergh and company are aiming for a Christmas
release date. He also noted that the film will probably begin shooting in
January with the primary locations being New Jersey, LA, Chicago, Florida,
and Las Vegas.

Currently the script is undergoing a rewrite by both Ted Griffin and Steven
Soderbergh. As to how much of the script will change is not apparent at
this point in time.

Thanks Massive3215

But i hope they keep the parts with the glow in the dark footprints. That was my favourite sequence from the original.

    Sounds Good Indeed

    by scott ridley

Don Cheadle sighning on is the only thig that has to happen to make this perfect, pity about Wahlberg but Damon should fill the gap. With Sodergerg in the driving seat and a cast like this, they can't loose (touch wood).

    Twins in Ocean's Eleven

    by darla

I like the suggestion of Mark & Michael Polish from Twin Falls Idaho. I haven't seen the original yet, so I don't know if the brothers need to be identical, but how about Dean Winters and Scott William Winters from Oz? They look quite a bit alike, even though Dean has dark hair and Scott is blond.

    I've got no complains.

    by superninja

So Wahlberg is out...I say WHOOPEE. He was good in Boogie Nights, and I haven't liked him since. Matt Damon is a far superior actor -- hell, he outacts him in the Bagger Vance trailer by a mile. That new trailer is a great improvement, btw.

    ahem

    by droog

I dunno how accurate that info is, outside of the Damon and Fiennes bit which was in Variety. MacGregor's name has been tossed about for a while now so that's nothing new. But Cheadle was originally going to play Frank Catton, who is the only black guy in the script (Roscoe is a one-armed surveillance expert). And Don Rickles was originally rumored for the Tishkoff role, but recently Variety or Hollywood Reporter said Alan Arkin was signed onto the film, and Tishkoff is the only role i can imagine him playing. So I dunno how Pollack would play into it, unless they're still adding characters to an already-packed script...

    Forget Damon-

    by virgo25

I wish Soderbergh would reconsider about Damon. He's a little too preety and looks like Brad Pitt's younger brother. A better choice would be to get Jude Law or Croupier's Owen Wilson. They would add the right amount of style and class that the filmmakers are looking for. So what if they're Brits, remember Tim Roth in Reservor Dogs? By the way I think Sid Pollack in this movie would be great. I've always loved his acting(Eyes Wide Shut, Husbands & Wives, Tootsie)

Jerry Weintraub click right here pally boy!

    by bari umenema

You've made some crap in your time Jerry my man (Vegas Vacation, The Specialist, The Avengers, Soldier, that last Karate Kid movie with the girl) but this will be your Redemption as a Producer. You did an excellent job in developing the script for this so have fun in Vegas and Atlantic City and make sure Don Rickles has a part in this star-studded extravaganza! L'Chaim! Mazel Tov! Success! Break a leg..."E-Oh-Eleven"...

    Yowsa, the Winters boys!

    by sabrina

Great idea about the Winters brothers, Darla -- I love them, and it would be nice to see them out of OZ (I'm still pissed that Dean left "Law and Order: SVU"). But the Polish brothers would be weirdly satisfying, too -- they have that beautiful/creepy thing down (plus they're Latino, something this cast is sorely lacking). Who else? Not the O'Connell brothers (too goofy); possibly some Baldwin configuration (Stephen and Billy?)? I don't know.

Sorry about that, My mistake. I think he would be better, don't you? And yes I was serious about Jude Law.

    Hello - Billy Murray?!

    by fitzgerald

Is everyone forgetting Billy Murray? He was supposed to be in O11 (I believe as the same character Bruce Willis was up for, which is strange).
I don't really care which character he plays, he's great and should be in there.
