Nordling here.
I have little idea what Terrence Malick's KNIGHT OF CUPS is about, and to be fair, they never wind up being about what they're supposed to be about anyway. I heard that it was ostensibly a crime drama, but it sure doesn't look like much of that is still there in the new trailer that dropped today. But who cares - it's a new Malick which is cause enough for celebration. Some of the transitions and shots in this are stunning - Emmanuel Lubezki seems to be doing his customary amazing work - and I particularly love the score here.
If you're looking for something to break the brooding Christian Bale stereotype, this movie ain't it, apparently. But what we do get is a man struggling with ennui in what appears to be modern Hollywood, but I'm happy not knowing the plot. A Malick film is a gift, and this is one we have to wait until next year to open. Here's the trailer:
Nordling, out.
