Marvel finally made the official announcement of Benedict Cumberbatch as DOCTOR STRANGE, last week. Naturally, the speculation and rumors have now turned to other characters that might be in the film and the actors who might be in the running to play them.
Well, Latino Review has published a list of three actors they claim are up for the role of The Ancient One. The Ancient One is Stephen Strange’s mentor and the one who helps Strange ultimately take over as Sorcerer Supreme . He also has a major role (in the comics at least) with the development and setting up of the villain, Baron Mordo.
So who is being considered for the mentor role? Nobody too surprising or shocking as it appears that it is down to the very terrific, Bill Nighy and two Nolan Batman alums in Ken Watanabe and Morgan Freeman.
I presonally, really hope they decide on Nighy for the role. He deserves to have a major role in a blockbuster film that isn’t an UNDERWORLD or PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie. Seriously though, just imagine Cumberbatch as Nighy’s mentee, the verbal sparring they will likely have with each other, and the likely excellent chemistry. It just makes sense, so make it happen, Marvel.
