Looks like John Lee Hancock (director of SAVING MR. BANKS, THE BLIND SIDE, and 2004’s THE ALAMO - and a scripter on MALEFICENT and the upcoming Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake) is helming THE FOUNDER.
Written by Robert Siegel (Big Fan), The Founder is a drama that tells the true story of how Ray Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He maneuvered himself in a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire.
The tone of the script has been described as being akin to The Social Network and There Will Be Blood.
…says THIS piece in THR.
I wonder if the movie will chronicle the origins of the palpable unhappiness one can sense from employees when walking into a McDs, or the strange and secretive nature of being a Ronald clown, or the Freudian enticement of the company’s iconic “M” arches (hint HERE or HERE).
McDonald’s did bring us STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE Happy Meals back in 1979, though - so a tip of the hat to them for that…
