Deadline is reporting that Damon Lindelof’s HBO adaptation of “The Leftovers,” having burned through all of Tom Perrotta’s novel for its first season, will be leaving its Mapleton, N.Y., setting behind.
Despite this, the entire Garvey family will be back, including (ex?) Mapleton police chief Kevin (Justin Theroux), (ex?) Guilty Remnant leader Laurie (Amy Brennerman), (ex?) cult follower Tom (Chris Zylka) and troubled daughter Jill (Margaret Qualley). Minister Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) and his sister Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) will also transition to season two.
For those unfamiliar, “The Leftovers” depicts a world in which 2% of the world’s population mysteriously vanished on one Oct. 14. (Perrotta chose that date because that was the date he began writing the book.
