Foe Jarrell reports in on Rob Zombie's first test screening of HOUSE OF A 1000 CORPSES
Hey folks Harry here with an agent called Foe Jarrell... who has chimed in with our first look at Rob Zombie's HOUSE OF A 1000 CORPSES... Now... We've long been hoping that this will be a great horror film by a great horror fan that has a great sense of taste in cool horror flicks of yesteryear... but... BUT can Rob pull it off? Well, if this is a straight up and on the level review... I'd say it looks good, BUT we've never heard from this guy before and Foe Jarrell is a suspicious name... somehow familiar... Hmmmmm....
Harry,
First time writing in for me.... I live just north of Sacramento here in
California, and I'm always reading with envy about people seeing early
screenings.
Well my dream has come true..it started this weekend... My buddy and I went
to see Goat on Fire and Smiling Fish, and a woman came over to us with a
clipboard and asked us if we wanted to see a preview on Thursday.
She read us a description. All I rememeber is two words: Rob Zombie.
I knew he'd directed a movie, so we said yes and we were given the details.
The company (Movie View) called us to confirm that we were coming on Tuesday.
So tonight, off we went to the Laguna Village theaters. THEY ACTUALLY CARDED
US TO SEE IF WE WERE OVER 17!!! They said it would be rated R.
It started right on time at 7pm...its called "HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES," and the
only credit said it was written and directed by Rob Zombie.
This is, seriously, one of the most whacked-out, intense and scary things
I've seen in years..... Everything about is unique.. Its got this crazy
cast, most of them I didn't recognize, except for Karen Black (as this
backwoods nympho grandma) and Michael J Pollard (from Bonnie & Clyde and that
episode of Star Trek with the girl from True Grit), and the guy whose name i
don't know who was in Frankenstein General Hospital. PLUS... the guy who was
the father (not the grandfather) in The Teaxs Chainsaw Massacre plays a
"normal" role...the father of the one of the group that ends up in the wrong
house on the wrong night with the WRONG people.
Its full of weird color, weird sets, WEIRD music...a lot of tunes from the
30s or 40s over these whacked out scenes of these road-trippers being
victimized by this crazy family in a strange house in the woods. Its not
like recent horror films.... Its not predictable slasher moments... The
situations are truly horrifying...and very very intense. Its like your worst
nightmare about what could happen if you knock on the wrong door.
There were two women behind us that were just whimpering toward the end of
it, they were so scared. now THAT I haven't seen in many many years.
Rob Zombie must love the movies of Mario Bava, and Herschel Gordon Louis and
even the good, early Wes Craven, (the one who made Last House On the Left and
Hills Have Eyes, before he sold out and made crap like Scream and that
fucking thing with Meryl Streep as the music teacher). Its definitely an
homage to those kinds of films, but it takes them a step sideways and this
movie definitely has its own twisted personality.
It was still in pretty rough shape; they explained that at the beginning, and
I noticed there was music from other older movies used in a few places.
Anyway, Rob Zombie has reinvented the classic 70s horror movie...the ones
with lurid color and desolate setting and insane characters, and i couldn't
be happier. i just hope they don't make him cut the really intense
stuff...its all too good to go.

by xthecrovvx
Whatever higher being blessed us all, and allowed Rob Zombie to make this movie must be recognized and praised for eternity...the way it sounds, this guy seems to be on the up and up, and for now i'll trust him...and damn, i want to trust him....we are in need of a true horror flick...i mean, yes, The Exorcist re-release comes out next week(ROCK ON!), and Blair Witch 2 is coming, and after seeing the trailer, i can say that it COULD be cool....but i dont think i have any second thoughts about Rob Zombie giving us anything but kick ass.....but my greatest fear comes not from this film itself..but from the MPAA....with all this bullshit posturing from Unsmilin' Joe Leiberman about violence in movies, why do i get the bad feeling that the Hypocritical Duo are already plotting their assault on this Jack Valenti to force some truly rotten cuts to this flick as it stands? That would just bite....so, let it be known now...if this whole violence banning thing blows up even further, i am SO applying for dual citizenship...i hear Canada's real nice this time of year...and the worst i have to worry about is too many people running around with Celine Dion records, not some conservative ass-bandit in a suit who's trying to keep my violent game loving, cursin like a sailor ass from my free speech....Revolution is my name, eh, hosers....

Yeah I agree, its about time someone put out a decent horror movie, god the most recent batch have been shit!
I recently saw House on the Haunted Hill because a friend had it and god it was bad. The acting sucked, the effects sucked, the plot sucked.
Now Blair witch was the most original horror in years but it didn't scare me at all, after all you don't really see too much (yeah I know its supposed to be what you envision!) but a good, scary, haunted/lived in by psycho's movie is really needed! Come on Rob Zombie make me cry! Okay maybe not, but give us a cool movie!

Supposedly the new trailer is being previewed before 'The Watcher'. Can anyone confirm this? Did anyone actually go and see the Watcher? hehe...I may now have a reason. -
Wow!!! Or, as heard on the Howard Stern show, "Uhhhh...wowwwwww!!!" First we get to delve into "Almost Famous"/Harry's psyche and the next day we get to hear about a Rob Zombie film that left women "whimpering?" This may be an anomaly, but acknowledging the more rock'n'roll aspect of fandom is most definitely a good thing! A couple more news articles along these lines, and you've got "Don't It Rock News." I can't wait to hear reviews from people like ZOSOCROWLEY, SECRETOFNIN, POWERFAN5K, OZZYANDHARRY, VAIGONJINN, etc.!! How about that great conversation transcribed when Harry meets a plastered, belligerent Philip Anselmo backstage! Or, Clutch invites Harry to join them onstage after reading his "personal reviews". This is the paradigm shift that this site needs! (P.S. I'm securing "WYLDSTALLIONS" as a user ID right now, so don't even think about it!)

Go take an English class, man. BECOME LITERATE before posting next time.
-
I hope he writes a lot more reviews, never changes his writing style, and never learns actors names. I find this much easier to take than some geek with all the facts, or worse some geeks who gets the facts wrong. This movie sounds really cool. Also, I don't know the name of that Wes Craven movie where Meryl Streep played the fucking music teacher either, and better yet, I don't want to know!

::sniff-sniff::...Studio plant?

I love reading positive reviews of new horror movies. I will be there!!

I've never liked Rob Zombie. In fact I dislike him strongly (I've stopped saying "hate" cuz it's a too strong word to use when it comes to taste and such (YEAH RIGHT!)) And, yes, Joe Lieberman is one annoying motherfucker. (I still wish that Gore would win the election though, because George W. Bush, Jr. is a...ummm Dumb, racist and massmurdering jerk!(Oh, I "dislike him much" too.)Anyway, everyone who's been around for a while know what I think about this movie, but still I can sure as hell repat it. Rob Zombie is a "rock star". And even though I think his music sucks like a power plant-powered vacuum cleaner, music is his "thing", or whatever. He couldn't make a decent MOVIE about ANYTHING, and by seeing his pathetic looser "heavy metal monster"-videos I've got an idea of what low-brow crap that's in store here. I mean, even the title itself (The House Of A 1000 Corpses", hey I'll top that Rob, "1001 Corpses", jeez) is just a despearate cry for attention (That's a good describtion of his music too, by the way, "a desperate cry for attention") And whatever qualitis that the others involved in the movie might contribute (actors, director(s) of photography excetera), Rob is goinna' kill with the most annoyingly crappy soundtrack this side of a possible "*NSync: The Movie". So there!

. . .did they not let this guy make the third Crow movie? Rat Bastards!
-
It was called Music of the Heart. Wes Craven may have made a misguided career detour here - i never saw it so i cant comment - but your absolute ignorace of this nominal fact-et leads me to assume one of only two things: a) you guys are so unenlightened that you fail to be aware of a movie nominated (rightly or wrongly) for TWO oscars ! or b) you are too "cool" to take notice of an institution that - like it or not - I PRETT MUCH THE CENTRAL EVENT ROUND WHICH THE US MOVI YEAR MOVES. And yes I am aware it is hopelessly undemocratic and a washout and any other false-type accusation you can throw at it . Yet you cannot deny it's importace or impact as a cinemaic event. Look bak at pat talk bak around the end of marh every year if you're trying to convince me otherwise. Either option means you are an idiot. Or a self confesed novice to film. Which is ok - if you come clean. Purposeful denial however just hows small minded hypocrisy and arrogance of the highest order. Grow up of fuck off to a less serious web site. You aint wanted. This is not a big headed IM THE GREATEST rant , BTW, I think the institution AICN has become diserves a little respect. Right ???

First, Andymation can kiss the fattest part of my ass...considering Rob Zombie is, despite what some people think of his music, one of the most creative forces in music, and knows his horror flicks, i remain VERY faithful in this project....and for anyone concerned about him turning this into a "big monster movie attraction", should check out his work on the Frankenstein album..Rob can and WILL treat this movie with as much heart as humanly possible, and if that thing about women whimpering in their seats is true, i am SO there first night it comes out, which brings me to number two, does anybody know when this flick comes out? heh, if they really wanted to put their faith in this flick forward, they'd release it same day as BWP2.....number three, the guy who is desperately wondering why they didnt let Rob make the third Crow....a fact that i am very much ashamed of(look at my user ID, for crying out loud)...the way i hear it, he wanted to make a really dark futuristic Crow flick(which would've rocked), but Ed Pressman, the louse, wanted a popcorn flick with the Crow name stamped on it...the same principle applies to the TV show, which couldve been so much better(original idea was that there would be 4 or 5 episodes dealing with a different Crow every time, which wouldve been very cool, with the right writers), the same applies to Kevin Smith's Superman("who cares about the dialogue? this is a popcorn flick, kevin!" assholes..)...BUT, what ive been hearing is that Rob Zombie is retooling the script he wrote for it, altering the Crow elements, keeping the story, and producing it himself after House of 1000 Corpses comes and goes...and final note for now, on an outside subject...SUPPORT WAY OF THE GUN BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!! Thank you...This has been a public service announcement from the Coalition for Better Movies....Revolution is my name...
-
Ug! I hit enter! I'm too depressed to talkback now.
-
Fanboys, i have suffered for your sins, and i have seen this flick (what can i say? ive always had this mad crush on Gloria Estefan..)....and to keep a long, sad story short, on an anger scale of my reaction after the movie was over, one being the archetypical muttered "goddamn piece of shit flick", 10 being your traditional good old fashioned passionate ass whoopin', 5 being your Limp Bizkit "Give me something to break" mode, this movie got me to about....::drumroll:: 7! Good work Wes....dont quit your day job, you dink....Revolution is still my name...
-
I'm happy the movie kicked. Who knew the maniac could make a good movie? I mean really. Anyways, I hope it keeps coming along and making improvements. Rob better get back into the music business after this though.
-
Maybe written by a shill, maybe just someone who worked for NRG at one point (the pay is crap and turnover is high) but probably just an overzealous fanboy. Rob beats the same dead horse every album, but nobody except his little brother is doing this stuff, so why not - he gets better every time.
I don't think his musical abilities have much to do with his visual sense. The videos are cheaply made because that's the budget he and his team are given to work with. Just be glad he gets a fucking video now and again.
Pressman, while a good choice to play the Clock King in a live-action Batman TV series, is a bottom-line asshole who keeps running what he's got into the ground. I'm happy he didn't get to fuck Rob over like all the rest.
Wow, Seven11 - Just 'cause you don't wish to come correct with the typing skills doesn't mean you're cool. And just 'cause it's a talkback doesn't mean you shouldn't correct a mistake or two. But hey, once upon a time I was sixteen and drunk, too. (See how much easier it is to make a point without the capslock on?)
Blair Witch 2 will pale in comparison to 1000 Corpses. I refuse to relent - make a new movie instead of a franchise placeholder! How many unproduced horror screenplays got ignored in place of I Know What The Craft Did On Halloween?
Bitterman - pull up your pants. -
o.k., first this 1st talkback thing is only intersting to people who aren't getting enough sex, but then, that's probably b/c they are only 14 anyway.
o.k., joe lieberman. he is just like any other politician, he loves issues that middle class parents with kids, who have an interest in everything staying the same, and vote, don't oppose. but it's not a real stand. 'cause everyone's against violence right? but it's in tying real violence to violence in the movies, that i don't agree with at all. i think it's just sword rattling to make people think he's proactive. but honestly, i'd like to see washington try to control media content. the can't do it. are they aware of a little document called the constitution! anyway, obviously i'm preaching to the converted here but this is a serious issue. not violence in films, but the idea of legislating (or threatening legislation) that would control content. i bet gore and his wife thought this up during one of their dope smoking "experiments". -

by sam mcabee
Mario Bava's style of filmmaking and HG Lewis' style are so far apart that to make a comparison is to show how little you know.
Stop throwing names around to flesh out your lame review.

studio-plant fake review, and the dope on musician / directors.
by art-man
Rob Zombie can't direct a movie because he's a musician? Somebody better go tell Mike Figgis to stop directing, and Woody Allen also, because they are both musicians. Add John Carpenter to that list, 'cause he's a musician as well. As for the review...as Elaine from Seinfeld would say... it's "fake, fake, fake, fake!" Still, I am curious to see the movie. If nothing else, it'll be a good rental, just like House on Haunted Hill was, whoever was blasting it up above...Now The Haunting....THERE was a reeker. I'm never gonna get those two hours back, am I? Oh, one last musician / director...Desi Arnez, the man who pioneered the use of multiple cameras in TV direction. So there! Want some more? Who wants some? You?!?

Im soooo glad im a Canadian and dont have to worry about this fucking guy liberman who has no right to discriminate against the violent movie and music lovers out there. Anyway, enough of the Liberbash, Damn im excited about this "flick". I can visualize this now, super freaky pycho fucking bashing my head GOOD. And oh btw, Andymation dosent have a fucking clue about what Rob Zombie is all about. So go back to your little shit sync of a life and keep your dumbass comments on your mommas cpu to your little group of teenies out their who give a fuck about what your saying.

I hope this movie is more disturbing than the past two Harry Hea
by bitterman
I hope that Corpses will be as good as the review says. Zombie doesn't come from a film background, this is obvious. BUT he is a hardcore horror fan and knows that if you're going to make a horror flick these days you must bring something to the table! Grundy - damm when you live in a swamp for a week and a half, everything starts to look crappy!
-
I've missed way of the gun, I'll miss this, fuck knows what else I'll miss. Thank whatever I'm going home for Thanksgiving so I won't miss Enemy at the Gates. Oh yeah, don't go to this movie expecting to be frightened. Seriously, when the fuck was the last time anyone was scared by a movie? But do go expecting to see a freaky ass flick that would warp the mind of a priest.
-
We saw the trailer when we went to see The Watcher. It scared the hell out of us. We can't wait to see it......if it ever comes out.
