I have no insight into the what may come next in the STAR WARS animated universe currently being spearheaded by REBELS.
However, I can back up claims that…as indicated below…The Powers That Be have a very clear timeline for REBELS in mind, and a very clear sense of how (and how long) it should connect the STAR WARS universe.
Something to think about when mulling this new rumor via /Film…
/Film has now exclusively heard that Lucasfilm not only knows where Rebels will end, the company knows what’s next for the Star Wars animated world. Rumor has it that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to do “about” three or four seasons of Star Wars Rebels before starting a whole new Star Wars animated series, with all new characters, set in the timeline of the current movies (the Star Wars sequel trilogy).

Again, I have no clue if this is information is ‘correct,’ but it would seem logical for a number of reasons. It would certainly connect with The Powers That Be’s interest in trans-media storytelling (of which I’ve previously indicated SW: TFA helmer JJ Abrams is a big proponent), and I suppose it could feasibly connect to FORCE AWAKENS star's John Boyega’s recent Instagram post mysterious indications that he was “working on a cartoon.”
Although the ‘cartoon’ he’s discussing might be too soon to be this new alleged SW series, but with this lot involved, who knows?
