Michelle MacLaren officially signs as the director of WONDER WOMAN!!

Even though she hadn't signed yet, it seemed like Michelle MacLaren was all but a lock to direct WB's WONDER WOMAN when it came out that she was a frontrunner for the gig almost two weeks ago.

Lo and behold, Ms. MacLaren has been signed to "develop and direct" the first female-led entry of the DCU.

Apparently, Jennifer Kent (THE BABADOOK) and Lesli Linka (HOMELAND) were also up for the job, but WB may have also taken a look at a few non-female directors after struggling to find enough worthy candidates that were women.

She hasn't directed a feature yet, but then again neither has fellow GAME OF THRONES alum Alan Taylor, who did a fine job on THOR: THE DARK WORLD last year. The fact that she's been hired to "develop" as well as direct gives the notion that she'll be more than a hired gun, which was what some said was an inevitability. MacLaren is an expert at coming in and doing wonders (heh) with pre-existing casts and crews, which should prove handy when dealing with the various execs and creative departments she'll have to interact with over the next two-and-a-half years.

Given her work on GAME OF THRONES, BREAKING BAD, and THE WALKING DEAD, I'd say we can safely trust her genre instincts on this, no?

WONDER WOMAN will lasso you into the theater on June 23rd, 2017.
