Tonight’s SNL Vintage brings a second-season episode from Nov. 20, 1976. Chevy Chase had already left for Hollywood but still appears in this episode’s opening. John Belushi plays Henry Kissinger. Dan Aykroyd plays Tom Snyder and Rod Serling. Bill Murray’s SNL debut was still seven weeks away.
Instead of getting another season to follow first eight episodes of “Hello Ladies,’ HBO has hired creator-star Stephen Merchant (some say he’s the real funny behind the UK version of “The Office”) to tie up all his loose ends with a 100-minute TV-movie. It’s a little predictable, but I found tonight’s wrap-up a reasonably painless way to get closure on the franchise’s most dangly plotline with Stuart Pritchard’s hot actress-tenant.
