The Wrap is reporting that Brenton Thwaites could be heading to the high seas in Disney's new PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN film. The star of OCULUS, THE SIGNAL, MALEFICENT, and THE GIVER (he's had a bit of a busy year) is currently in talks to join Johnny Depp in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.
This marks the fifth film in the franchise, and will see the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane and Orlando Bloom are rumored to return as well, though their pariticpation hasn't been confirmed at this point. Javier Bardem is also in talks to co-star as the film's villain - Captain Brand, a ghost set on revenge against Jack Sparrow, whom he believes murdered his brother.
Thwaites is apparently in talks for the role of Henry, a British soldier. We don't really know anything else about the character, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he joins up with Sparrow's crew at some point - Thwaites definitely has a swashbuckley look about him, and I could totally see him going pirate.
The film is scheduled to begin filming in February, so no doubt we'll be seeing more casting announcements in the coming weeks.
