Above is our first look at the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hard buddy comedy, GET HARD, ahead of the trailer debut this Tuesday night (6:30 CST to be exact). The image doesn't quite get across the premise: Will Ferrell is getting sent to the hoosegow for a major white-collar crime, and hires Hart (the one black guy he knows) to train him to be a "thug" to protect the sanctity of his virgin anus. The twist is that Hart, a valet attendant in Ferrell's office building, is nothing but a beleaguered family man, and is as non-gangster as you'd imagine a Hart character to be. Hence pedantic stuff like giving Ferrell cornrows.
From everything I've heard about this movie, it's one of the better recent entries in either actor's output. The chemistry between the duo and the class-struggle element are allegedly enough to make the movie feel fresher and funnier than, say, RIDE ALONG or THE CAMPAIGN. Kevin Hart movies have been doing fine without another big-named comedian sharing the spotlight, but I'm thinking there's a chance that, with Ferrell, the actor-comedian will reach his biggest audience yet.
The cast also includes Alison Brie as Ferrell's sexpot fiancee, Craig T. Nelson as her father (and Ferrell's boss), and T-I as Hart's gangster cousin.
We can gauge the quality of the film and its prospects better when we see some footage on Tuesday.
