Apparently Matt Smith’s role in next Summer’s TERMINATOR GENISYS may lead to his expanded involvement with future TERMNINATOR films - provided the first one performs well enough at the box office.

…there certainly seems to be no guarantee that said picture will find smooth sailing. But who knows? We've yet to see a trailer, or sequences, or the film itself. It's always possible the tides may shift.
While waiting to see how everything shakes out on that front, Smith is turning his attention to a different project - called PATIENT ZERO.
He’ll star in the film alongside Natalie Dormer (THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 and 2, as well as GAME OF THRONES and ELEMENTARY on television. She also appeared in a stunning and under appreciated British series called THE FADES). The film will be helmed by Stefan Ruzowitzky and scripted by Mike Le.
In Patient Zero, an unprecedented global pandemic of a super strain of rabies has resulted in the evolution of a new species driven by violence. An inexplicably immune human survivor with the ability to communicate with this new species must spearhead a hunt for Patient Zero in order to find a cure to save his infected wife and humanity.
