CHEAP THRILLS' E.L. Katz to direct horror-romance YOU'LL BE THE DEATH OF ME!

Above is Pat Healy's reaction to this news.

His CHEAP THRILLS director E.L. Katz will follow that film up with YOU'LL BE THE DEATH OF ME, a horror-comedy set in NYC. TWO NIGHT STAND scribe Mark Hammer wrote the film, which revolves around a burgeoning courtship between two New Yorkers that is threatened by the presence of your average, day-to-day masked murderer.

No clue which actors they're looking at, or if any of Katz' CHEAP THRILLS cast (including Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Ethan Embry, and David Koechner) will appear, but this certainly seems like an intriguing follow-up to that film. The brutality and pitch-black comedy of CHEAP THRILLS won a bunch of people over, and it'd be cool to see Katz maintain that momentum with this grander-scaled project.

Personally, I'd love it if this turned out to be Hammer's sequel to TWO NIGHT STAND, and that that film was just a lead-up to the main event of Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton getting closer while evading psychopaths. Sorta like Tarantino's original plan to overlap TRUE ROMANCE and NATURAL BORN KILLERS. It could happen, right?

Lionsgate is distributing this time around, so let's assume they'll be able to give YOU'LL BE THE DEATH OF ME the kind of exposure Drafthouse was able to provide for Katz' first film. It'd be a shame if the director's sophomore flick ended up being lost in the shuffle.
