A Lucasfilm animated fairy tale called STRANGE MAGIC hits theaters this January!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Well, I guess I haven't been paying attention because I had no idea there was an animated film in production at Lucasfilm based on a story by George Lucas (who in turn took inspiration from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream).

The flick is called Strange Magic and is promised to be a fairy tale musical set in a land of goblins, elves, fairies and imps. The folks at ILM handled the animation, which means it'll look pretty. Rango was gorgeous, afterall.

Touchstone will release the film in only a couple months. Strange Magic is set to hit theaters January 23, 2015. That could mean the movie's being dumped, but I'm hoping they've just noticed that people actually still want to see good movies just as much in January as in May or July or November and that there's a little more breathing room for them there.

The voicecast includes Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Maya Rudolph, Alfred Molina and Peter Stormare.

It's amazing to me that a project like this could fly so low under the radar, but whatever. I like surprises.
