The two DESPICABLE ME feature films to date have grossed well over $1 billion dollars, so this franchise isn’t going to fade any time soon.
While that first sentence may sound cynical, and I suppose it is it is to a degree, the truth of the matter is: I really like 2010’s DESPICABLE ME - and its sequel as well. I liked their heart, appreciated their smarts, and believed in their earnestness.
As such, I’m all for exploring the Minion/Groot verse a bit further - as long as the franchise doesn’t seize-up and SHREKifiy. Based on this trailer for MINIONS - a Minion-centric big screen adventure which released July 2015 - The Powers That Be still seem to be very much on the right path.
A third, full-on DESPICABLE ME film will open June 2017.
