WONDER WOMAN to be set in the 1920's!?!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

So Warner Bros is finally giving us a standalone Wonder Woman in July 2017 with Gal Gadot playing the titular superhero. She will first be making an appearance in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and so the assumption was that the WONDER WOMAN film would then take place after it.

Not so fast though, as according to a new rumor from Bleeding Cool (who has been hit and miss in the past) the standalone WONDER WOMAN film may take place in the 1920’s. Here is how they break it down:

"I have been informed by those who have seen the greenlit treatment that the film will spends the first half on Paradise Island with warring Amazon factions vying for control.

An arrival of a man on the island changes that status quo, as he asks the Amazons for help. Not necessarily Steve Trevor either…

Because when Wonder Woman joins him on his return to the world of Man, we all discover that it is the 1920s. And the film will then show Diana exploring that world – a world where women have only just got the vote – from her… unique perspective."

They go on to mention that the plan is to have the sequel take place during WWII and then to have the trilogy capper take place in the modern day, but that is getting way ahead of ourselves.

If Warner Bros is dead-set on having most of the WONDER WOMAN film take place on Earth though, I guess this is the best scenario. Comparing this to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I thought WONDER WOMAN would be more THOR than CAPTAIN AMERICA but this sounds like a blend of the two. The rumored details also hint at some feminist undertones which would be really interesting to see explored in a comic book film setting.

I also like the idea of having the individual WONDER WOMAN films be in a completely different place and time than what is going on with the modern day JUSTICE LEAGUE films (and not just to lead into the team up film like CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER did). It might get confusing for some of the casual moviegoers, but it would be a good way for DC to distance themselves from the mostly chronological nature of the Marvel films. (It would also get rid of the stupid questions about why the heroes don’t call their friends for help in the individual films.)

None of this is confirmed however so take it as the giant rumor that it is and try not to get too up or down on the project based on this. Hopefully, we will get some more concrete details with WONDER WOMAN in the next few months (along with the news that Lexi Alexander is directing).
