Michael Bay Closing In On A Real Life Political Thriller/Drama!!

13 Hours book cover

Michael Bay is taking time off from his TRANSFORMERSverse to focus on a smaller, and decidedly different tale. He'll be working from a script by Chuck Hogan (THE TOWN, THE STRAIN).

Based on a novel by Mitchell Zuckoff, 13 HOURS…

...details how on Sept. 11, 2012, terrorists attacked the U.S. State Department Special Mission Compound in Benghazi. The focus is on six members of a security team that valiantly fought to defend the many Americans stationed there. They only partially succeeded: Stevens and a foreign service worker were killed in one attack, and two contract workers were killed during a second assault on a CIA station nearby.

Hmmmmm.  A smaller movie detailing a ‘real life’ incident.  This pattern is very similar to the appearance of the rather great PAIN & GAIN between Bay’s third and fourth TRANSFORMERS films.  My understanding is that Bay’s involvement with AGE OF EXTINCTION was somewhat hinged on the studio moving forward with his P&G passion project.  I wonder if the pattern is repeating itself here?  Meaning…

…may 13 HOURS portend Bay’s involvement with a fifth TRANSFORMERS movie?  Might the same kind of trade-off be in the wind?  Just stabbing in the dark here, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised...
