I believe this is the first time we're seeing Johnny Depp's Big Bad Wolf (revealed yesterday) in action, or footage of any of the cast members actually singing.
Disney is unsurprisingly aiming directly for the MALEFICENT crowd with this one, with this featurette highlighting how they are recontexualizing the classic fairy tales like Rapunzel or Cinderella, but with "enough fresh, brand-new story" to make it feel new.
I'm mostly unfamiliar with Sondheim and Lapine's original musical, I have very little appreciation for Rob Marshall's work, and I'm certainly not the target audience on this film, so it's hard to comment on anything except the fact that this looks big and star-studded. But Johnny Depp's wolf definitely looks more silly than menacing, even when he's howling at the moon.
How do those better-versed with INTO THE WOODS feel about this film so far?
Did Meryl Streep just steal a joke from Elaine Stritch in SCREWED?!!
