So, I guess Christian Bale is playing Steve Jobs after all!

So said Aaron Sorkin, and so it was.

After David Fincher abandoned Sorkin's JOBS, it was assumed he took Bale, his pic for the title role, along with him. When Danny Boyle came onboard, he reportedly looked at guys like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Bradley Cooper, and even sent out an offer to Leonardo DiCaprio. But it looks like Bale still pushed for the gig, and now, he's got Sorkin lovingly endorsing him and confirming his casting in that Bloomberg video.

I have no doubt that Bale will, as Sorkin says, "crush it." The dude brings is to every performance, and many have said (including myself) that he's his generations' closest thing to Robert De Niro, zipping through wildly varied characters (and weights) and making it look easy. I just rewatched THE PRESTIGE a few days ago, and without spoiling that movie's secrets, the balancing act Bale has to maintain in that film is unbelievable on repeat viewings. Even as the "straight man" in AMERICAN HUSTLE, he was hilarious, a little off-center, and absolutely alive in every moment.

It's easy to dismiss this as a fairly walk-in-the-park gig, considering Jobs' extensive public profile, but Bale isn't the "easy way out" kind of actor. I firmly believe he'll be another in a long line of actors to give extra verve and punch to Sorkin's dialogue. He can also convey a ton with his eyes and body language, so don't be surprised if he puts a powerful spin on some of Jobs' more famous lines/speeches. If it lands him a Best Actor Oscar to rest on the mantlepiece alongside his statue for THE FIGHTER, then all the better.
