Quicksilver will return in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE!

Everyone loved that Quicksilver scene in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. A lot of people told me their primary complaint about Singer's epic adaptation was that Evan Peters' character was in and out of the film far too quickly (slightly fewer complained about the cutesey allusion to Quicksilver's relationship with Magneto).

Well, we may not get that much more of him in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, but Quicksilver will definitely be showing up.

In an interview with Newsarama, second unit director Brian Smrz says that he basically directed that famous slo-mo scene, and that Quicksilver will be making a return appearance:

"Well, there will be another Quicksilver scene, which I’m looking forward to; that’ll be fun."

Notice how he says "scene," not "scenes", implying that his role will be another brief walk-on instead of a starring role alongside Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and the rest. The recent Honest Trailer for DOFP pointed out that a lot of the X-Men's problems would easily be solved by Quicksilver's powers, so maybe it's best for the film's narrative thrust to mostly keep Speedy Gonzalez in the basement with his ping-pong paddles.

Still, Smrz says that he'd love to dig deeper into the world of Pietro Maximoff:

"We talked about Quicksilver before, I’d love to do a Quicksilver as a solo film because there’s a lot to enjoy with that character."

Smrz probably got a huge boost of confidence after the reception of that particular scene, and if he's really the one mostly responsible for that scene, he clearly has a handling on how to show Quicksilver's powers on film. I don't need to see Bryan Singer's epic, bleak version of a Quicksilver solo story; Smrz's would be just fine.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE does the mutant mash on May 27th, 2016.
