When the trailer arrived for Rob Marshall's theatrical take on Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS, we got a good look at many of the characters that would be seen in the film - Little Red Riding Hood, Chris Pine's Prince, Meryl Streep's Witch, Anna Kendrick's Cinderella - but when the time came to check out the Big Bad Wolf, played by Johnny Depp, we barely caught a glimpse. The character slinked behind a tree, with only his furry hand lingering, and leaving the audience to wonder just what he would look like in the finished film.
EW has released a series of covers of the cast members, including Depp's Wolf, and the result is...underwhelming.
Maybe I was expecting too much when I thought that the inclusion of a Big Bad Wolf would amount to more than Depp wearing a trademark funny hat and a fake mustache. But that's really all it comes down to here. It seems a bit of a letdown, given how much they built up the character in the trailer footage.
